Spear REIT has extended its long-standing support for Bonginkosi Educare Centre in Khayelitsha by sponsoring 300 nutritious pies from Metro Pie each week. The pies are delivered to the centre every Wednesday, providing a wholesome meal for the children in their care. This initiative builds on Spear’s commitment to the Educare Centre, which has been ongoing for over 10 years.
Bonginkosi Educare Centre is a non-profit educational institution dedicated to nurturing, feeding and educating the children of the Khayelitsha community. Currently caring for close to 300 young learners, the centre has provided assistance to more than 10,000 children since its inception.
Jacobus Bouwer, owner of Metro Pie and a tenant of Spear at Viking Park, expressed his appreciation for this initiative; “It’s an honour for Metro Pie to contribute to such a meaningful cause. We are proud to provide pies to Bonginkosi Educare Centre and take special care to ensure they are both healthy and enjoyable for the children. Knowing that we can bring joy and nourishment to their lives makes this initiative incredibly rewarding.”
Sue Maartens, Principal of Bonginkosi Educare Centre, highlighted the positive impact of this collaboration, saying: “The children really look forward to Wednesdays when the Metro Pie deliveries arrive. These weekly donations from Spear make a big difference in their lives, not just by providing healthy meals but also by showing them that they are cared for and valued by our community.”
